Build A Movement
Build A Movement (BAM) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to researching and spreading knowledge on the methods of nonviolent, grassroots activism to promote democracy, human rights and social change. On the ground with activists, on university campuses, with policy-makers or in the media, Build A Movement aims to strengthen the capacity of people-power movements and civil society around the world, not only to challenge authoritarianism and injustice, but to ensure peaceful and durable transitions to democracy.
BAM is looking for a new Executive Director to take over all major responsibilities and lead the organization with the primary mission of achieving growth by securing new grants and contracts and implementing projects.
The primary responsibilities of the Executive director will include:
Developing partnerships and securing funding to run projects in line with BAM’s mission and goals, including with other non-profits and international organizations.
Maintaining existing relationships with democracy and human rights organizations and develop relationships with new organizations.
Managing projects from beginning to end, including project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting.
Performing all administrative tasks incumbent to running a nonprofit organization, including accounting, narrative reporting, financial reporting, human resources, etc.
The ideal candidate will have:
A graduate degree in international relations, human rights, international development or a related field.
A strong interest in activism, social movements and civil resistance.
Experience working on fundraising and project management for a nonprofit in the United States, including writing grant proposals, budgeting securing funding from a variety of sources, working with staff, contractors and partners on project implementation, financial monitoring, reporting, etc.
An ability to work independently without oversight, including on many different projects, with various partners and across time zones.
The position is based in Washington, DC.
