Build A Movement (BAM) offers year-round research internships at its Washington, DC office. Internships are unpaid, can be either part-time or full-time and may last six weeks to six months. Under exceptional circumstances, research internships can be conducted remotely.
Interning with BAM is an opportunity to gain or deepen knowledge on the methods of nonviolent action, the tactical and strategic implications of people-power and mass mobilization movements, and the dynamics of democratic transitions. It is also an opportunity to contribute to this emerging field of scholarship, to publish analysis in the media and support pro-democracy and human rights movements around the world.
Duties and responsibilities
Researching and reporting on ongoing nonviolent movements and creative mobilization efforts around the world
Assisting in the drafting of books and manuals geared towards civil society activists
Assisting in writing op-eds on international policy, nonviolence and democratic transitions
Writing grant proposals
Additional responsibilities may include administrative tasks and social media management.
Recent or current undergraduate or graduate student in international relations, political science, conflict resolution or a related field
Proven knowledge and interest in democracy, democratization, human rights or social change
Excellent research, writing and editing skills
Reading and writing fluency in a second language is a plus.
